Strong Cast for ”Beauty Shop”
Raymond Hitchcock in Film Version of Stage Comedy
In a statement just received from Cosmopolitan Productions, attention is called especially to the strong line-up assembled for ”The Beauty Shop,” which is an adaptation of the musical comedy by Channing Pollock and Rennold Wolf. Raymond Hitchcock, who starred in the original stage version, heads the cast appearing in the picturization. Concerning the list of players which will contribute to the fun making in the motion-picture adaptation, Cosmopolitan makes the following statement:
"Billy B. Van and James J. Corbett, that famous pair of comedians, will play the parts of prominent Bolognians who conspire to make Dr. Budd’s life in their native country a series of highly uncomfortable thrills. Van and Corbett are not new to pictures, the former having played in five two- reel comedies, and the latter as the hero of motion picture dramas."
"Montagu Love, leading man of many screen dramas and an actor with a splendid stage career to his credit, has the role of the heavy who leads the other Bolognians in their handling of Dr. Budd. Mr. Love recently was seen in another Cosmopolitan Production, 'The World and His Wife.’”
"The Fairbanks Twins — Marion and Madeleine — will use what spare time their work in Two Little Girls in Blue at the Cohan Theatre affords them to appear in ‘The Beauty Shop.’ The famous twins will be seen as two dancers with one of whom Dr. Budd falls in love. The twins were attractions a few years ago in the old Thanhouser productions."
“Louise Fazenda, creator of many laughs in scores of comedies, has a comedy role in this production. Miss Fazenda came East from Los Angeles recently to appear in ‘The Beauty Shop.’ Her newest role is one which her long experience in comedy qualifies her to assume with an assurance that she will be funnier than ever.
“Diana Allen, a Follies girl, known as the ‘Swedish Snowbird‘ because she was born away up north in Gothland, will grace the production as niece and ward of Dr. Budd. This is the third Cosmopolitan Production in which Miss Allen has had a part — the first being ‘Heliotrope‘ and the second ‘Get-Rich-Quick Wallingford,‘ the George M. Cohan comedy-drama that will be released in the Fall."
“Laurence Wheat, familiar in musical comedies and on the screen, completes the cast. He supported Mr. Hitchcock in the theatre production.
“‘The Beauty Shop‘ ran for eighteen weeks at the Astor Theatre in New York in 1914 and the following year covered the country. Mr. Hitchcock is considering appearing next year in the musical comedy in London. Edward Dillon will direct for Cosmopolitan Productions. The scenario was written by Doty Hobart whose script of ‘ The Woman God Changed, ‘ with its novel development, earned him much praise from the reviewers and public.”
